Watch It Chapter By Chapter

Every day of the tour, in the order we lived it.

Pulling out of Kolkata
Day 1 - 2

Kolkata to Cochin

Pulling out of Kolkata

The vlog opens with the familiar clatter of wheels. We board the scheduled AC 3A / 3E train at the designated Kolkata station and settle in for the long ride south, watching the plains give way to palm country. Train food is on you, but the anticipation is free. We roll into Ernakulam, and Kerala starts right away.

The Queen of the Arabian Sea
Day 2

Cochin local sightseeing

The Queen of the Arabian Sea

Our representative meets us at Ernakulam and we head straight into Cochin. Mattancherry Dutch Palace, the Jewish Synagogue, the heritage lanes of Jew Town, St. Francis Church and those famous Chinese fishing nets along the waterfront all fill the frame before an easy evening back at the hotel.

Into the tea country
Day 3 - 4

Cochin to Munnar

Into the tea country

A scenic 150 km drive climbs us into Munnar, past streams, small waterfalls, spice and tea plantations. The next day is a full sightseeing run, the Flower Garden, an optional elephant safari, Mattupetty Dam, Echo Point, Kundala Lake and the high Top Station viewpoint on the Tamil Nadu border.

Call of the wild
Day 5

Munnar to Thekkady

Call of the wild

We roll out of the hills towards Thekkady, with an easy stop at Anayirangal Dam on the way. The afternoon is all Periyar, the sanctuary full of birds and monkeys, and an optional boat cruise across the lake where, if luck is on our side, an elephant wanders into the shot.

Two hours on the backwaters
Day 6

Thekkady to Alleppey

Two hours on the backwaters

The big one. We land in Alleppey and board for our included two hour motor boat ride through the backwaters, canals, coconut groves and slow village life drifting past the camera. Then it is a swim and a lazy evening at the hotel pool before dinner.

Beaches to the three seas
Day 7 - 8

Kovalam, Trivandrum & Kanyakumari

Beaches to the three seas

A 190 km hop lands us at Kovalam, where we check in and then head into Trivandrum, the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the Kuthira Malika palace museum, Napier Museum and Sree Chitra Art Gallery, before an evening on Kovalam Beach. Next morning we drive to Kanyakumari and slip into Padmanabhapuram Palace, Suchindram Temple, Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the sunset point.

Sunrise at the tip of India
Day 9 - 11

Kanyakumari to Kolkata

Sunrise at the tip of India

We are up before dawn for the Kanyakumari sunrise over the meeting point of the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. Triveni Sangam, the Thiruvalluvar Statue, the Tsunami Memorial and a little souvenir shopping fill the day. Then we board the return AC train and ride the rails home, closing the vlog with a full camera roll and very tired smiles.
